Shading Practice
Hello Artist! I hope you’re having a great day!
The following exercise will help you give dimension and movement to any sketch that you might create.
The best way to develop your shading skills is to explore the various tones achievable though exercise and not directly into the drawing just yet.
This exercise can be challenging but fun. If you have different tones of pencils at home, go ahead and use them as needed. Make sure that you mark in the bottom of each square which pencil you used. For this exercise, only B, 2B and 4B were used, but if you only have a regular writing pencil from school at home, that will most likely be an HB and that will work. This way is also good because I will be able to see how much or how little pressure you manage to put in every tone. if you have a blender you might also use it but it’s not necessary, try to make it as even as possible in each square and fill it completely. Enjoy the exercise!
